from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
If you want to change your appearance the easiest way to do it, is to do something to your hair. Choosing the right hair colour isn’t as easy as simply picking out a colour you like. There are a lot of factors that you should consider before picking a colour for your hair. Take the time to observe your natural hair colour, your skin tone, and eye colour before making the final decision. You should also ask yourself if you want a dramatic change or just a new fresh look. Below are some steps that you can follow to make sure you are choosing the right hair colour.
Steps
- Take a look in the mirror and observe what type of skin tone you have. If you have Olive skin you suit darker hair colours. If you have Pink skin avoid shades of red or golden blonde. Stick to ash tones to neutralize your coloring. Pale skin suits pretty much any hair colour. If you have Yellow skin avoid yellow, gold or orange tones. Stick to deep reds.
- [[ What type of clothing colours suits you best? If you look good in red, orange, golden yellow, olive green or rust, you suit warm hair tones such as golden blonde, golden brown, strawberry blonde and auburn. If you look good in bluish red, fuscia, black, royal blue or pine green, you suit cool hair tones such as platinum, ash blonde, ash brown, burgundy and jet black. If you look good in red, purple, charcoal grey, periwinkle or teal, you suit neutral tones like sandy blonde, beige blonde, chocolate brown and mahogany.
- What colour of eyes do you have? A hair color with warm tones like red, gold and auburn shades are best for people with warm skin tones and brown, green or hazel eyes. This is because these particular eye colors also have a yellow base. Hair colors like light gold or ash are cooler-toned colors and are best suited to people with fair skin and blue or grey eyes. These eye colors have a blue base as opposed to having a yellow or brown base.
Tips
- Brown hair color suits almost everybody. By varying a shade of brown with highlights you can achieve a huge range of colors.
- Black hair color is easy to apply and is easy to apply on all types of hair. Usually, this color looks good only on people with dark or olive skin, and sometimes on people with pale white skin.
- Black hair is also the hardest color to lift so once you go black you can't go back (at least not without damaging your hair.)
- Red hair color is the brightest shade and attracts most attention. Be sure to choose a shade of red that compliments your skin tone.
- Blond hair dye is particularly harmful to already damaged hair, as bleach is a powerful chemical. It's best to make sure your hair is healthy before going blond. Keep in mind; most shades of blond usually tend to look unnatural on olive or dark skinned people.
Warnings
- You cannot go from one extreme of hair color to another.
- When you are coloring your hair for the first time don't do it by yourself. Get it done by a professional.
- Keep Hair coloring to a limit because you can damage your hair
